Prayer Flag is a colorful rectangular cloth often strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. They are used to bless the surrounding countryside and for other purposes. The reason why they are put high above the roof is so that they flutter in the wind. It is said that they emit positive spiritual vibrations and that the prayers are carried by the wind like silent prayers. The center of each of these prayer flags features a "Ta" (powerful or strong horse). The Ta is a symbol of speed and the transformation of bad fortune to good fortune.
The red, blue, yellow, white and green prayer flags represent elements like air, fire, water, space and earth. White symbolises wind, Red symbolises Fire, Green symbolises Water, Yellow symbolises earth, and Blue symbolises sky. They also represent directions – North, South, East, West, and Center.
